The Lake Lawsona area is one of Orlando’s oldest and most treasured areas.  Established in 1994 as an historic district, Lake Lawsona has 500 buildings dating between 1911-1950. The area is illustrative of the growth patterns of the city in the first half of this century with its mix of residential, educational and commercial structures.  Some of the beautiful historic landmarks in the neighborhood are H.H. Dickson Azalea Park, Washington Street Bridge and the old Orlando High School, now known as Howard Middle School.  The H.H. Dickson Azalea Park (1935) was named after H.H. Dickson, co-founder of one of Orlando’s earliest department stores, Dickson-Ives.  The park is 5 acres of lush foliage, brick walls and the Girl Scout Little House (1940).  The Washington Street Bridge was finished in 1926 and traverses the park and Fern Creek. The Neoclassical Revival Orlando High School was built in 1927 and became Howard Middle School in 1952 when Edgewater High School and Boone High School opened.  Langford Park, located on Central Ave., is full of weekend activities and concert series’. Some of the house styles in Lawsona/Fern Creek are bungalows, Mediterranean and Tudor Revival.
