The Lake Davis/Greenwood area of Orlando is one of the oldest sections of the city. The beautiful brick paved roads connect houses built in the early 19th century. Greenwood is home to the Greenwood Cemetery that was established in the 1880’s by the first 13 founders of Orlando, whom are buried there. The 100-acre cemetery is an Orlando icon that has a special section for those who fell in the Second Seminole War. The cemetery is full of beautiful statues, palm and oak trees that are older than Orlando. Huge blooming Azalea plants are scattered across the cemetery. The early Lakeland Cemetery is a copy of the award winning Greenwood Cemetery. Free moonlit tours are given to interested patrons. Lake Davis Park isn’t far from the cemetery. The park itself surrounds beautiful Lake Davis and is equipped with sidewalks, benches and areas to fish. This is a great park to spend the afternoon. The area is just south of Thorton Park and is close enough to downtown but far enough away from the hustle and bustle.
