The establishment of Fort Gatlin during the Second Seminole War allowed Conway to be the first established part of Orange County, formerly known as Mosquito County. A surveyor who named the area after his boss, Valentino Y. Conway, first named the Conway area in the 1940’s. This unincorporated part of Orange County was the site of one of the first five paved (brick) highways. This highway now runs alongside Briercliff Dr, Curry Ford Rd, and Conway Rd ending at Anderson. Conway lies just below Dover Shores and is most famous for it’s gorgeous lake system.
The Conway Chain is composed of 4 interconnected lakes with nearly 1,800 acres of clean water that are great for skiing, boating and fishing. Largemouth Bass is the local favorite and most sought after fish. Along with statuesque cypress and oak trees and Old Florida style houses, the Conway area has many beautiful parks and two public boat ramps, making the area a favorite of water enthusiast.
